Denise and I recently climbed to the highest peak in the Sierra near our cabin, Pyramid peak. It was about a 12 mile round trip hike. The first 5 miles from the parking area at Lyons Creek Trail Head to lake Sylvia was pretty easy going. Very Beautiful with the summer time flowers in full bloom.

Denise and I at the trail head.

Denise just getting started. All smiles.

We entered Desolation Wilderness a couple of miles in. Even here we could not escape the ever present noise of jets overhead.

A moment of quite repose by a gorgeous alpine lake.

Now the going is getting tougher. Here we have left Lake Sylvia and are headed up the steep scree field.

After several false summits we are finally nearing the summit. When you get this close there is no way to turn back even if you are tired. You have to get to the top!

Which we did.

The party before us left a treat for the Marmot. I think these Marmot eat quite well, Cashews, Raisins, and m&m's.

This is the view from the summit looking towards South Lake Tahoe.

This is looking South. You can see the ski runs of Kirkwood on the distant slope.

Unfortunately my camera battery died as to the west is a fantastic view of Lovers Leap. Now I have to make the hike up here again to get that shot. Of course Lovers Leap has special significance to Denise and I.
